I love my Alero. It has the 4 cylinder redesigned engine and I could not want more. The ride is very comfortable and the highway driving is exceptional. It hugs the road and “drives itself.” I’ve never had a better steering car. GM got it right with steering ratio, turning effort, return, etc. its the best. Low noise level at highway speed is exceptional. NO wind noise. All around a great car. Also,factory speakers sound great, no need to upgrade.

For such a small car, the Fiat 500 has enough retro style to fill the trailer of a Mack truck. It oozes so much coolness from its Italian pores that designers took a can opener to its tin top just to relieve all the excess mojo — hence the convertible you see here. OK, that’s not exactly how the story goes, but Fiat calls the result of its engineering surgery the 2012 Fiat 500C. We call it a Fiat 500 with a glorified sunroof.
But said head-burner is a bona fide head-turner. While zigzagging through L.A. with the top slid back past its rear headrests, you’d have thought a bikini-clad Olivia Wilde was seated to my right. The kinked necks and wide smiles emanating from passing cars were proof positive of the innate attractiveness of the retro-themed ride. No doubt about it, this drop-top drops jaws.
It isn’t surprising that women especially love our Bianco Perla Fiat’s bug-eyed and blunt-butt design. Note to those single men out there contemplating a tiny new ride: The 500C is the automotive equivalent to a restless puppy or a snoozing newborn baby. If you drive one, be prepared for an onslaught of stares and a collective “AWWWWW” from random ladies. Mini Coopers and Smart Fortwos, take note: The Fiat is the new hotness.

When Audi introduces a new S model, enthusiasts sit up straight and listen. Don’t even ask what happens when the German automaker rolls out two at a time, let alone three or four. But that’s what Ingolstadt has in store for us in Frankfurt this year.
Once the show opens in a couple of weeks from now, we’ll have a new S6 (both sedan and Avant wagon), S7 and S8 on our hands. And they’re looking pretty sweet so far.
At the top of the heap is the new S8 sedan, which adopts the new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that Audi has developed with Bentley, driving all four wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. With 512 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque on tap, the big sedan is said to be good for a hugely fast 4.2-second sprint to 62 miles per hour and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
The S6 and S7, meanwhile, get a detuned version of the same turbo eight with 420 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, good for 4.8 and 4.9-second acceleration runs, respectively. Cylinder deactivation and an active noise cancelation system are also part of the package on the entire range, and we’re anticipating getting each of these models – minus the S6 Avant – in American showrooms.

At 5.27 meters (17.29 ft) in length, the Audi A8 L Security is a large, representative luxury sedan, hardly distinguishable to the eye from the production version. The LED headlights, which use light-emitting diodes for all functions, lend a striking expression to its front. They are part of the standard package in the A8 L Security W12.
When developing the basic design for the A8 model line, Audi engineers already had the high-security version in mind from the very outset. The result is a totally integrated concept far superior to any retrofit solution currently available on the market. All of the major components were analyzed with regard to their deformation properties, giving the A8 L Security an excellent crash performance that is also mindful of the other party involved.
The armored sedan’s custom security modifications are performed by hand in a small, well-guarded workshop – on a production floor with specially secured doors, where the use of cellular phones is strictly prohibited. The basis for the high-security car is a previously modified aluminum production body constructed at the Neckarsulm plant as per the Audi Space Frame (ASF) principle. Specially trained technicians put in roughly 450 hours of work to incorporate the security features – in the uncompromisingly high quality Audi is known for. When this stage of the process is complete, the car returns to the factory for final assembly.

First Drive: 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. Hyundai isn’t interested in knocking shields with the likes of the BMW M guard, the Audi S line or even the Mercedes-Benz AMG legion with its 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. Instead, the newest addition to the Genesis line is out to offer buyers an extra helping of power and slightly sharper dynamics without all the motorsports pretense of its haughty German rivals. With 23 straight months of sales increases and 29,122 units sold last year, there doesn’t seem to be much of an argument for varying the luxury sedan’s recipe.
Even so, Hyundai has been quick to update its mid-luxury creation. Despite having arrived in 2008 as a 2009 model, the Genesis received a mild refresh in 2010, and 2012 brings a range of improvements across the line. Those include more power and fuel efficiency for the entry-level 3.8-liter V6 engine, aesthetic tweaks and the arrival of this range-topping Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. We were able to spend some time behind the wheel of the new five-liter four-door just outside of Las Vegas, but is the new bruiser worth its $47,350 price tag? Outside, the entire 2012 Genesis line wears a few subtle aesthetic updates. The redesigned front fascia is trimmed in reworked chrome accents at the corners and a new grille is flanked on either side by headlights with LED daytime running lights. Down the vehicle’s side, revised rocker panels and new matte chrome window trim are joined by redesigned 17-inch wheels. Toward the rear, new tail lamps and a slightly revamped rear fascia with integrated exhaust outlets tie up the changes. Meanwhile, 5.0 R-Spec trim adds in larger 19-inch wheels, dark-trimmed headlights and special badging.
Indoors, Hyundai is offering buyers a new rash of interior colors and trims, but the cabin has otherwise been left untouched. Rear passengers can now enjoy heated seats while the driver is met with a new lane departure warning system and glare-resistant TFT LCD screen mounted in the center of the gauge cluster. We love the 2012 Audi A7, that’s no secret. Still, an Audi that wears the S badge will always be more fun than any A-badged example. Audi is still fine tuning its upcoming S7, and spy photographers managed to capture a helmet-wearing test driver flinging the shapely sedan around the ‘Ring.
It appears that the wheelman is making good use of the turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. Rumor has it, that the powerplant in the S7 will be good for 450 horsepower. We definitely look forward to flogging one when an example finally arrives stateside.
Even when the S7 eventually does land in the United States, our impatient automotive journalist brains will be waiting for the rumored RS7. As nice as a 450-horsepower S7 sounds, the very notion that Audi will unleash a 580-horsepower V10-powered RS7 sedan warms the cockles (and the sub-cockles) of our heart. Word on the street says that uber-sedan will hit the stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. We wait for that day to arrive with baited breath.

Driven by Kuno Wittmer, the car set a time of 1:59.995 on the 3.048-mile Outer Course at Miller. At an average of 91 miles per hour, its the first time a production car has lapped the Outer Course in less than two minutes.
